Study Trips

We regularly carry out field courses on the Geobiology und Biodiversity of Coral Reefs.

Our primary locations were between 2004 and 2012 the Red Sea (Egypt), first on the Sinai and later on the mainland.

In 2014 we have moved our field course to the Maldives and currently work at the MaRHE Center on Magoodhoo (Faafu Atoll).

A short intermezzo brought us in 2019 to northern Sulawesi (Indonesia), in cooperation with Sam Ratulangi University (Manado), to Bunaken and Bangka Islands. Then the COVID pandemic hit and after the hiatus we are back at MaRHE in 2024.

The emphasis of this study course is on learning about the geobiology and biodiversity of coral reefs. The scientific programme of our courses involves intensive familiarization with the reef flora and fauna. Students carry out small research projects and also learn about marine conservation issues and local marine conservation efforts and strategies.

For additional details about the courses in the Maldives see the Maldivian Marine Biodiversity Wiki.
